HKS has created catalog systems for many clients including
Catalog systems do not have to have a full eCommerce back end to qualify as a catalog. In many cases the catalog is used to showcase products and services but the purchasing of those items is left for offline channels.
Following are some sample catalogs created and maintained by HKS.
A classic eCommerce system is the Tarion publications ordering system. This tool is actually an implementation of OrderPlus from Interlinc Direct. HKS has created OrderPlus specifically for Interlinc Direct but we also have our own eCommerce offerings.
This system has everything you might expect, a shopping cart, variable shipping charges, a full administration back end, eCommerce via credit card (processed through Paymentech) and data integration with Interlinc's internal accounting and warehouse management systems.
All of Career Edge's business processes are enabled by their website, in this way it is more than a catalog, it's a full business to business and business to consumer portal.
All business transactions with Career Edge can be handled through the website for all stakeholders. This system has 11 user levels, 3 active sites (1 dormant), over 150,000 registrants, with over 15,000 active.
The full case study is available for a high-level overview of the Career Edge experience.
One of HKS' early customers (actually, our earliest from January, 2000) Milltronics (later acquired by Siemens) needed an online catalog of all its process measurement equipment. No eCommerce was included so as to reduce channel conflict with the field reps, a common problem with specialized products sold through the channel.
There was a dabbling of eCommerce for some licensed software, but very little.
Mainly, this site provided vast amounts of technical information on extremely complex ultrasonic- and radar-based level measurement equipment.
Like the Siemens-Milltronics catalog, this site is desiged to provide all the collateral that a professional in the field (in this case, an interior designer) would need to specify the Keilhauer product including cut sheets, CAD diagrams, specifications, and textile swatches.
This site also contains big-ticket items that are not Credit Card friendly. Instead of traditional eCommerce, Keilhauer has a Rep portal, Cognos Power Cubes, and online order entry systems to support the reps and dealers in the field as well as the larger customers who need direct access.
The Toronto Chapter of the IABC is the largest in the world and it has many eCommerce features on its website.
Marketplace (Business Card Ads)
Members and non-members can post their business card ads on the website for a small fee. These ads are fully supported by the website and provide the administrators all the tools required to modify, approve, and remove them.
Job Postings
Jobs can be placed on the site for a fee and viewing these jobs is available to members with active credentials.
Events
Throughout the year the chapter has many money-making events scheduled and the website allows members and non-members to register and pay for the events. The administrators are given the tools required to manage these events from the back end of the website.
